Jon
H. Powell
jhpowell@showspowell.com
Jon H. Powell has been practicing law since 1995. Jon began his career in Greenwood, Mississippi, and in 1998 he moved his practice and home to the Jackson, Mississippi, area.
Jon grew up in Eupora, Mississippi, a small town of approximately 2,300 people located in north-central Mississippi. Jon was taught the importance of small town values, hard work, being active in church, and recognizing the needs of other people. Jon still considers Eupora his hometown.
Jon graduated in 1987 from Eupora High School, and went on to play college baseball at Mississippi College. After obtaining his Bachelor of Science degree from Mississippi College in 1991, Jon obtained his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from the University of Mississippi School of Law in 1994.
| Jon has been admitted to practice law in all Mississippi state courts, the U.S. District Courts for Northern and Southern Mississippi, the Mississippi Supreme Court and Court of Appeals, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He is a member of the Mississippi Bar and Hinds County and Rankin County Bar Associations. Within the Mississippi Bar, Jon is a member of the Real Property and Family Law Sections. Jon has extensive experience in real estate (both residential and commercial); family law (i.e., divorce, child custody, child visitation and child support, contempt and modification, and adoption); and wills and estates. Focusing primarily on these three areas of the law, Jon is able to remain updated on changes in the law, has gained extensive litigation experience in the courtroom, and has proven to be extremely successful for his clients. |
While everyone’s situation is different, Jon knows that communication with the client is vital to a successful result. Jon likes to know his client’s thoughts, ideas, and values. At the beginning of each representation, Jon asks each client what end-result they desire from the representation. This enables Jon to begin with the end in mind so that he and the client can plot a course on how to achieve the objectives of the representation. Jon works very hard to ensure that each client is pleased with the end-result.
Jon’s activities away from the office revolve around his wife and daughter. These include coaching his daughter, exercising, working in the yard, attending church, studying the Bible, and reading (a new-found activity he never thought he would do for enjoyment!). And Jon and his wife are particularly fond of watching a good movie together.
